I literally just found this post as I am looking for a way to make more money while being able to do a job I actually feel satisfaction from. When I get home from work I will definitely look long and hard at your website and see what I can get started on my off day tomorrow. Thank you so much for this post! Yes doing this while you work is a challenge but many people have started their online writing as a side hustle for sure!
You can if you market yourself as a ghostwriter! Hello I have some questions.
The Freelance Writing Jobs I Avoid
Could I write fanfiction books as well? You can write under a pen name as a freelance writer, but you do have to have things in place under that name like social media channels and a portfolio showcasing your writing. These are things that will help you land clients and make a living as a writer!
This post had been amazing!! I have a question. Do you have to start a buisness to be a self-employed freelance writer and to have buisness cards? Great article! I already have an LLC for publishing, an author website with a short blog page for advice to other authors, author newsletter, Facebook groups, etc. I plan to start freelance writing soon to financially support my transition as it is going to take awhile to do that as an author. Do I need separate platforms for freelance work vs my authorship?
Thank you! I feel they need to be separate as your clients will be different than authors. After reading this post, I have a lot to work on as a first-time writer. I think the ghostwriting idea is the most challenging one for me.

But I love everything you talked about. This information is definitely pushing me in the right direction. Thanks so much mama!
Ghostwriting is a lucrative niche but I like bylined content. If you need more help, remember to find me on Facebook! Well done. Full of usefull facts backed up by supportive responses made by people who have taken your ideas and suggestions, tried them by putting them to work and voila success. I am a 53 year old ex high school teacher and basketball coach who spent his life, until , working his butt off trying to get drafted to play professional baseball. I was less than 3 weeks from attaining that goal when a back disease surfaced which ended all sports playing and eventually my ended my sports related career.
Thank you for your help! Sorry to hear that but glad you can find something else to be successful at!
Freelance writing is great for those with chronic illness or mental health issues like depression or anxiety. Yes, my twins are five and this is the last day of school! Noise and mess here I come! Thank you for this article! Especially for From brief research, I am aware that content mill websites are not the best in regards to starting out freelancing.
However, what is your opinion on using them to get feedback and experience on dealing with clients for the first time? Example: TextBroker. I would stay away from them but you can use them ONLY as a way to fill your daily income quota, not as THE way to make money or gain experience. You can pitch your ideas, work with an editor and get feedback for your writing.
This can help you. Cheers for taking the time! Slowwwwwly working my way through your Write to 1K course love it! So glad you are doing the course and not stopping! I have just ventured into the world of freelancing and i am grateful i am learning from the right person.

Easy Media List
I know the clients at these sites can really pay petty, but I have read of clients who had a good start. Cold pitching is great and has to be done right. I also loooved the idea of outsourcing from your own website. Though am not an all time freelancer, I normally cash in from clients directly reaching out to me via my contact page after they have read a great post they enjoyed. Thanks so much for being a follower! You need to build your OWN platform to attract clients.
What are the new things you need to know? Laptop — you can get by with any laptop. My house is a Mac user house, and those are the laptops I do most of my writing. Just remember to type appropriately so you avoid hand issues over time.

Proper seating — invest in a good computer chair. Big no-no! Paypal account — if you already have one, get a business account when you land clients. Email address — most of your negotiations will be made via email or…. Skype address — some clients want to talk to you face-to-face, and Skype is a tool most know about. Motivation and Desire — I get a lot of emails from those wanting to start but have a hard time motivating themselves. Freelance writing is a solo job.
